Summary
While most priests would have moved onto the suburbs for their next assignment, Father Michael Doyle entrenched himself in one of America's most violent cities. A true activist, for over 60 years he fought to provide better schooling for children, made affordable housing available to hundreds of families, improved the environment by taking on big government's waste treatment plant, and beautified the area by replacing concrete and abandoned lots with trees and gardens. By refusing to leave Camden, he changed the lives of countless citizens in the city's most impoverished neighborhood. His legacy The Heart of Camden organization continues today to lead the charge for renewal, education, and opportunity for the people of Camden's South Waterfront District.
