Summary
Composed of five stories and two lectures, The Insufferable Gaucho was the last book the author left prepared for publication. It appeared in 2003 and was recognized the following year with the Altazor Prize for narrative. I seek the extraordinary to say it in ordinary words. In the stories included in El gaucho insufferable, the masterful use of irony and some of the fundamental keys of Bolaño's work stand out: literature as an argument, police plots, art as obsession, the search for a truth that only seems inescapable to those who pursue it, the demystification of reality and death. Two discursive texts, prepared by Bolaño for conferences, complete this volume. In Literature + Disease, an unimportant anecdote gives rise to reflection on disease and death. The myths of Cthulhu, for their part, offer an interesting personal and critical view of the contemporary literary landscape. Reviews: A true creative and aesthetic testament. J.A. Masoliver Ródenas, La Vanguardia An ambitious and provocative book that we will appreciate. Joaquín Marco, El Cultural One of the crucial authors of the latest literature written in our language. Arturo García Ramos, ABC One of the greatest and most influential contemporary writers. The New York Times was an experimental writer who invented new forms and was a very independent and very critical voice. Mario Vargas Llosa One of the most respected and influential authors of his generation ... . At the same time funny and, in a sense, intensely frightening. John Banville, The Nation Bolaño has proven that literature can do anything. Jonathan Lethem became a central storyteller and novelist, perhaps the most prominent of his generation, arguably the most original and the most uncommon. Jorge Edwards Almost all writers believe they are, or want to be, like Roberto Bolaño: innovative and bold in style, seductive in storytelling, and able to be read and reread; in other words, exceptional. Scott Bryan Wilson, The Quarterly Conversation A writer who subverted shapes and genres to offer a different look at reality. That's why Roberto Bolaño is so modern and his prestige grows over the years. Carles Valbuena, Time Out Barcelona The post-Boom Spanish author with the most impact on world literature. Santiago Gamboa, El País Roberto Bolaño left a mark where it passed
