Summary

Twelve-year-old artist and budding railway detective Hal Beck is back on the case. This time, he and his uncle Nat have been invited by Baron Essenbach to help solve a mystery - a supernatural one. Because Essenbach suspects something weird is happening to his wife's family, the Kratzensteins. Powerful German railway tycoons, the Kratzensteins are very rich - and possibly cursed. After all, legend has it than an ancestor of the Kratzensteins once made a deal with the devil. After one of them is found dead, Hal and Uncle Nat agree to help, going undercover to find out what's really behind all the suspicious activity. As more and more strange things occur, can Hal solve this paranormal puzzle before it's too late?
